Poultry Shears, The Must Have Tool

The term scissors and shears are interchangeable. But strictly speaking scissors and shears are two different things. Shears are overall larger than scissors and are used to cut heavier goods than scissors. The first thing one will notice is that shears are longer by a few inches than scissors.

There are other physical differences between the sheer and the scissor. Shears will generally have a different size handle or hole for the thumb and the fingers. Shears may have longer handles or levers to be able to cut with more force. Even though there are differences between the two, the concept is the same 2 blades designed to cut by sliding against each other.

Because of these differences in design, shears are naturally used when one needs to cut more difficult to cut materials. Examples of that would be materials like plants, wool and metal objects. The specific design of the shear, will change with the job such as gardening sheers that have longer handles for better leverage.

There are shears that are made to be used in culinary applications. They can be called kitchen shears or scissors. These types of shears are identical to scissors at first glance but have minor design changes like a fulcrum that is placed further away from the handle for better cutting results. Kitchen shears are an excellent tool for cutting food items like meat or poultry.

Kitchen shears are also known as poultry shears. The best models are made out of carbon steel, because of their sheer (no pun intended) durability and long lasting blades. Stainless steel blades just do not last as long. Getting a pair that has removable blades is a good idea, so that instead of buying new ones you will just have to replace the blades.
