Bakeware Pans In All Forms, Sizes And Types

A baker doesn’t need to wait for a special holiday or celebration to pull out their bakeware pans and get baking. Baking is enjoyed all year long, by those who do it as much as by those who eat it. Baking trays and cake pans can come in lots of different shapes as well as materials they are made out of.

Choosing the right bakeware is very important if you are someone who likes to bake. Silicone is a big trend right now because it is so flexible and easy to twist so that baking pops out successfully. Food doesn’t stick to silicone very much and the bakeware cools faster than metal trays. Baking times for silicone trays may not be the same as for metal trays.

Metal bakeware once had a short lifespan. Like cast iron pans, baking pans would start out a light metallic silver in colour but would quickly turn black as they ’seasoned’, the more they were used. The more often metal pans were used, the more they began to stick as well. It would take a great deal of elbow grease to clean older pans and trays because if they weren’t completely cleaned, they would cause future baking projects to stick or burn.

For awhile people were very reliant on Teflon coated bakeware. Teflon was a special film that went over cookie sheets or in cake pans before they were sold, to keep food from sticking. However, as the pans aged, the Teflon would start coming off on the food. They required special care during washing and if anything broke the seal of the Teflon, you could expect to see flakes of silver start showing up on your baked goods. Though no one has reported a death from ingesting Teflon, it doesn’t make for very good presentation.

Ceramic bakeware has also known some popularity in terms of baking. If the ceramic is coated and cared for during its creation, there is no reason its surface wouldn’t be stick-free. Being ceramic, though, this type of bakeware could easily get scratched or even break after much use or being dropped. Ceramic is prone to getting minute scratches in its surface from scrubbing too hard with a metal dishwashing scrubber or using metal utensils on it. Many people still adhere to using ceramic bakeware but it does require special caution.

One of the great things about baking is that it can come in so many great shapes. There is a strong trend in modern times to use cupcakes for everything, even for making large cakes. Some bakeware comes with not only the base cup for the cupcake but with an attached cavity for making the top of the cupcake, normally reserved for icing. Other pans actually make giant cupcakes the size of a typical cake.

Cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods can be made into many shapes. For springtime, there are little baskets with attachable baked flower contents, all in the same joined tray for ease of baking. For the harvest seasons, there are pumpkins of many sizes, some the size of cupcakes and others the size of a full cake themselves. For winter there are thousands of Christmas ideas, such as snowflakes and gift-shaped cakes. And for unique holidays there are special pans, like making hearts for cupcakes and cakes at Valentine’s Day.

Bakeware pans can come in such a large array of styles, it’s hard to decide where to begin. Consider keeping a good range of products on hand. Also consider what your needs are in your kitchen, so you can choose the right material for your bakeware pans that best suits your baking style.
